About Mykonos

Mykonos lies 150 km South-East of Athens. Native population is approximately 8,500 and covers an area of about 88 square Km.

Surrounded by brilliant blue sky and the shimmering Aegean Sea, the legendary island of Mykonos is a picture-postcard come to life.

With its whitewashed churches, windmills, quaint cobbled streets and pristine beaches, this stunningly beautiful island captures the very essence of Greece.

Mykonos belongs to the Cyclades group of islands located in the center of the Aegean Sea. It is a small island yet offers much more than many of the big islands do.

Mykonos is a famous international holiday resort, as well as a celebrity spot, attracting several thousands of visitors from all parts of the world.

It has maintained its appeal as a world famous holiday destination providing a nice climate, beautiful beaches, ample services and facilities as well as a vibrant nightlife scene in Mykonos Town.

It is undeniable: Mykonos has a natural beauty that is hard to compete with, the gently curving beaches, water like liquid glass and a town that looks like it came straight out of a story book. There is a distinct sense of unreality about it because of its scale and vividness of color, which give it a toy-village feel. The buildings are perfectly white with multicolored doors and shutters.

Its tiny twisting streets have cobblestones picked out in white and are narrow enough to traverse with one step in some places.

Glimpses down alleys reveal a medley of little bridges between houses and balconies, stairways and porches, all carved out of the same white stone of the building they sprout from. Shops squeeze next to each other, o_ering traditional knitted cotton-wear, leatherwork, famous exquisitely wrought jewelry, artwork, T-shirts and unexpectedly sophisticated boutiques. These are interspersed with small but impressive churches, pretty little tavernas, restaurants and bars.

The landscape is breathtaking as the rocky land comes in contrast with the bright blue sea and sky. One of the most spectacular advantages of the island is that sandy beaches surround the whole of it. There is such a huge variety to please every taste, that none of the other islands in Greece o_er; there are the quiet, secluded beaches, the busy ones, with sea-sports and _nally beaches that play loud music and have a party/clubbing atmosphere! The crystal blue sea is always irresistible. There are many sports that one can enjoy in the island, such as windsur_ng, water-skiing, scuba diving (i.e. underwater caves, shipwrecks, ancient pots), horse riding, swimming and tennis.

Mykonos is a busy island with all the facilities of a modern resort and with plenty to do by day or night, for those who want to have a lively time. Yet visitors fond of more peaceful holidays will find quiet places in which to relax.
